“Human Nature” is the fifth studio album from Hardline and it was released by Frontiers Records on 14th October. The band is probably best known for their 1992 debut “Double Eclipse” and the inclusion of guitarist Neal Schon (Journey and Bad English) in the original line-up. There is much more to the band than that though and the latest album firmly places them in the modern era with 12 great rock tracks. I played the lead-off single “Where Will We Go From Here” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 9th September.
Singer Johnny Gioeli continues to lead the current Hardline line-up and is the only original member. He is more than ably supported by Alessandro Del Vecchio on keyboards, Josh Ramos on guitars, Anna Portalupi on bass and Francesco Jovino on drums.
There had been many line-up changes in the band since it formed and quite often big gaps in time between album releases. It took ten years for “II” to appear following their 1992 debut and the third album “Leaving The End Open” appeared in 2009. The shortest period between albums was the three years to 2012 when “Danger Zone” was released.
The band apparently set out to record an album that sounded like a heavier, more modern version of “Double Eclipse” and I would suggest that they have certainly achieved that. There is definitely a heavier sound than has been present in any previous Hardline album.
There are 11 tracks on the new album. My favourites would be “Where Do We Go From Here”, “Nobody’s Fool”, “Trapped In Muddy Waters” and the slower number “Take You Home”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”
The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
