“The Last Full Measure” is the latest album from Swedish band Civil War and it was released on 4th November via Napalm records. The “Power Metal” genre can be a bit hit or miss for me personally, but I took an instant like to this album when I first checked it out. The track “Road To Victory” was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 18th November.
Civil War was formed in 2012 when four members of Sabaton left to form their own band. Nils Patrick Johansson from Astral Doors was brought in as the vocalist. There were a couple of departures from the band in 2015, but former Sabaton members Rikard Sundén (guitar), Daniel Mullback (drums) and Daniel Mÿhr (keyboards) remain. The fifth and final member of the band is guitarist Petrus Granar who was originally brought in as a third guitarist (and seventh band member) in 2014.
The band released a self-titled EP in 2012, followed by their debut album “The Killer Angels” in 2013 and “Gods and Generals” in 2015. The military and warfare have been a recurring theme for Civil War songs from the beginning and that continues on “The Last Full Measure”.
There are ten tracks on the album. My own favourites would include “Road to Victory”, “Deliverance”, “Savannah”, “America”, “Gangs of New York” and “Gladiator”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”
The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
