“Cemetery Junction” is the latest album from Demon, one of the initial NWOBHM bands, and is well worth checking out. It was released on 28th October via Plastic Head Distribution. “Cemetery Junction” is the fourth studio album to be released by Demon since they reformed in 2001; after a break of almost 10 years. I played the track “Turn on the Magic” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 4th November and “Are You Just Like Me” is on the Show on 25th November.

Demon formed in 1979 and released their first album “Night of the Demon” in 1981. As with many bands of that era, their sound changed a bit in the subsequent albums. By 1992 the band had released 9 studio albums, a live album and an “Anthology”. The only surviving original member of the band at that stage was vocalist Dave Hill and that year the band decided to call time.

Dave Hill reformed the band in 2001 for the release of “Spaced Out Monkey” and they went on to release “Better the Devil You Know” in 2005 and “Unbroken” in 2012. The current line-up behind Dave Hill is Ray Walmsley on bass, Karl Waye on keyboards, Neil Ogden on drums and David Cotterill and Paul Hume on guitars.

There are 11 tracks on the album. In addition to “Turn on the Magic”, my favourite tracks would be “Are You Just Like Me”, “Life in Berlin”, “Queen of Hollywood” and the title track “Cemetery Junction”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
