For about seven years, from 2000 onwards, I drove a Mazda 323F that I loved. It had a cassette player installed and I kept a small stash of cassettes that were constantly rotated through the player. One of those contained the album “Hot Wire” by Kix; which is maybe why I’ve maintained a keen interest in what the band are doing! In 2014 the band released their first studio album in almost 20 years and on 21st October Loud & Proud Records released a documentary DVD called “Can’t Stop The Show – The Return of Kix”. Accompanying the DVD is a CD of live performances – “Can’t Stop The Show (Live)” – which includes 12 tracks recorded over the past three years. “Girl Money” is included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 28th October.
Kix formed in Maryland back in 1977/78 and released their self-titled debut in 1981, followed by “Cool Kids” in 1983 and “Midnight Dynamite” in 1985. The band’s peak of success came with the albums “Blow My Fuse” in 1988 and “Hot Wire” in 1991. A live album was released in 1993, followed by “$how Bu$ine$$” in 1995. The band then parted ways until 2003. They then focused on touring rather than recording, although another live album was released in 2012. After signing with Loud & Proud Records they released “Rock Your Face Off” in 2014.
The current Kix line-up includes no fewer than 4 of the members who recorded the debut album back in 1981 – Steve Whiteman on vocals, Brian “Damage Forsythe and Ronnie “10/10” Younkins on guitars and Jimmy “Chocolate” Chalfant on drums. The ‘new’ guy is bass-player Mark Schenker who has been with the band since 2003, replacing Donnie Purnell.
The 12 tracks on the live album are listed on a previous post, along with a list of famous contributors to the 71 minute long documentary - http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/news/general-rock-news/2820-news-update-release-of-documentary-qcant-stop-the-show-the-return-of-kixq.html

About “NI Rocks Recommends”
The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
