Australian band Black Aces have just kicked off the UK leg of the “Aussie Wrecking Crew Tour” with Massive and Tequila Mockingbyrd. Earlier this year they released their debut album “Shot In The Dark” and that album had a special European release on 30th September ahead of the UK tour. Fellow Aussies Airbourne have been singing the bands praises and it’s no surprise that Black Aces have been drawing comparisons with than band. I was a bit slow picking up on this release, but I’ll be including the track “Girl Like You” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 7th October.
The initial release of “Shot In The Dark” in January featured ten tracks recorded and produced by Craig Harnath at Hothouse Studios. The latest release includes three ‘European Bonus Tracks’ – “Girls Got Rhythm”, “Shake The Ace” and “Wanted Man”.
Black Aces have been touring around Australia for more than five years performing a brand of rock n roll synonymous with AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, Airbourne etc. That no doubt will draw criticism from some, but personally I have no problem with it – I see it more like a rock genre rather than imitation. The band undertook a previous UK tour in 2013 which resulted in the connection with the Bad Reputation label.
Black Aces areTyler Kinder on lead guitar and vocals, Alex McMillan on bass, Pete McMillan on drums and Jarrad Morrice on rhythm guitar. Check out http://www.blackacesrock.com/ for more info, including the latest tour dates. They’re in the UK until 12th October but return in November for more gigs including the Hard Rock Hell festival.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”
The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
