Hollow Illusion is a band from Norway that features twins Magnus M. Hoel on vocals and Ove M. Hoel on bass. They previously released two albums under the name Hollow before changing for legal reasons. Their debut, self-titled album as Hollow Illusion was actually released on 12th February; though I only downloaded it at the start of March. Even so, I’m a bit late in getting a recommendation written; though a vinyl edition of the album is released on 8th April. “Hollow Illusion” is self-released and was produced by guitarist Trond Holter who is best known to me for his work with Jorn Lande.

There are 11 tracks on the album, including a minute long intro called “Mercury Rising”. There are a few slower tracks on the album, but my preference would be some of the rockier tracks such as “God of Rock”, “Lights Go Down”, “I Don’t Care” and “Voodoo Medicine Man”.

The twins cite their influences as Metallica, Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy and the band has supported bands such as Stage Dolls, TNT, Jorn, Circus Maximus and Accept. They plan to tour more widely to promote the new album.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
