“Powderkeg” is the third album from the Jac Dalton band and was released on 26th October. For some reason it’s taken me a while to get around to checking out the album that is being promoted in the UK by BJF Media. I’d been aware of the Jac Dalton band previously and had downloaded his previous album “Icarus” (2013) only to lose it when my harddrive crashed shortly after. Having listened to “Powderkeg” a few times over the past couple of days there is definitely a lot to recommend and you can be sure I’ll be keeping an eye out for any future releases.

Jac Dalton wouldn’t be your typical rock frontman. Born and raised in North Carolina from a long line of clergyman, he is now a resident of Adelaide in Australia. Jac is a practicing chiropractor and Functional Neurologist (with a PhD; so it’s really Dr Dalton!), has a degree in Marine Biology and Oceanography, has toured the world in theatre shows (including playing the male lead in Moulin Rouge in Las Vegas) and is active in a number of charitable roles including being Director of the Chloe Valentine Foundation working in the area of child protection.

“Powderkeg” is a no-nonsense rock n roll album with great vocals from Dalton and some excellent riffs from guitarist Graham Greene. Also appearing on the album are Annemieke Heijne on guitar, Troy Brazier on drums, Jim Awram on bass and Donna G on backing vocals. On tour though Jac uses an entirely different band.

There are 11 tracks on the album, including a decent cover of “Sweet Emotion”.  “Roll With The Punches” had been released as a single in 2014 and a video has been released for the title track “Powderkeg”. Other favourites would include “HardCore SuperStar”, “Can’t UnRock Me” and the ballad “One Heart, One Land”. There is also an acoustic version of the latter track re-named “Chloe’s Song” which is used by the Chloe Valentine Foundation.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
