Stormbringer are a band from Northampton that formed back in 2011 and released their debut album “MMXIII” in (not surprisingly) 2013. After a change in lead vocalist the band are back with their second album “Blood And Rust” which was released on 26th October through Attic Records. The album is a great mix of “classic” rock with a heavier underlying sound. The intro “Blood and Rust” and opening track “”No Redemption” are included on the Friday NI Rocks Show this week and “Bad Blood” was included on the Show a few weeks ago.

The new lead singer is Jimi Brown (formerly of Burn City Burn) and he replaced Mike Stockley who sang on the first album. The rest of the band are Ash Smith and Dom Wallace on guitars, Darren McCullagh on bass and Jon Paul Quantrill on drums. Smith used to be in a grindcore band called Nekkrosis whilst Wallace was a member of fairly successful metal band Viking Skull.

There are 10 full length tracks on the album following the intro “Blood and Rust”. My personal favourites would be “No Redemption”, “Bad Blood”, “Unto Me” and “Voice of Demons”. The final track on the album is an impressive cover of Psychokiller”.

“NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
