The Arkanes are 4 young guys from Liverpool who signed to SPV Records in 2013 and release their debut album “W.A.R.” in the UK on 28th April. The band has a distinct sound that is hard to define – perhaps a result of the wide range of musical influences stated by the band members. Everything from The Beatles to Avenged Sevenfold, via Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Kelly Clarkson! However you want to define it, “W.A.R.” is full of great tunes that clicked with me from the very first play and kept me listening!
The band can trace its roots back to 2007 when vocalist Chris Pate and bass player Lee Dummett formed a band called Silverchild. They were joined by Andrew Long on drums and Dylan Cassin on guitar before renaming the band. The Arkanes have already had a good measure of success in Europe and the USA over the past few years, building up a reputation as a good live band in the process. Their previous release, an EP entitled “Don’t Act Like You Know Me” was well received.
Favourite tracks would include “Onus”, “Sharpshooter”, “Command:Turn:Revolt”, “Guilt Trip”, “Skeletons” and “Paper Planes”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”
I'm not a reviewer and I certainly don’t claim to be a journalist, but I wanted to acknowledge some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI by artists, promoters and labels. That was the simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends”. To be honest I’m not really a big fan of the whole idea of “Reviews” as they just represent one person’s opinion!! So I'm not giving marks or ratings, trying to categorise bands or compare artists. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
