Over five years ago, I first saw Ajenda playing a gig in The Empire, Belfast and I’m pretty sure that it was that same night that I bought a CD in a clear plastic folder from the young lead singer as she worked the crowd between bands. That CD was the first Ajenda EP and contained five excellent tracks, some of which have been reworked over the years and made appearances on subsequent releases, though I must admit I still love those original recordings too. Ajenda have finally released their first full length album entitled “Unrecognizable” and it contains that same mix of awesome vocals and ridiculously excellent guitar work that first made the band stand out five years ago.

The driving force of Ajenda has always been Jen on vocals and Gav on guitar and over the years they’ve had some great local talent on bass and drums. In recent years those positions have been very ably filled by Jan and Peter who must rate as two of our best musical imports.

Anyone who has been around the local rock scene will need no introduction to Ajenda or their music and won’t need me to tell them to buy this album! The band have been frequent performers at SO:NI nights in Belfast, the Diamond Rock Club in Ahoghill and other venues across Northern Ireland and you’ll often see Gav and Jen at other gigs. For those who need an introduction to the band I can highly recommend the purchase of “Unrecognizable” – listen and enjoy!

My favourite tracks would include “Hollow” which first appeared on that early CD, the fantastic opening anthem “Dirty Rock n Roll”, the title track “Unrecognisable”, “Tattoo” and “Hatred and Greed”

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

I'm not a reviewer but wanted to acknowledge some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI by artists, promoters and labels both within and outside of N Ireland. That was the idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends”. I'm not giving marks or ratings, trying to categorise bands or compare artists. The albums that I’ll be recommending would be those I’d buy myself, so there’ll be a strong focus on “classic rock” sounds; however you wish to define that! What you won’t get is death metal or similar genres. Each to his own, but that ain’t what I choose to listen to!

To be honest I’m not really a big fan of the whole idea of “Reviews” as they’re simply one person’s opinion!!  “NI Rocks Recommends” is therefore just my personal recommendation. Let's just say that if I've went to the bother of writing this, I think it's worth taking a listen to and you’ll be hearing it played on my shows on Rock Radio NI!!
