English singer Ian Parry has been performing for over 25 years; in bands, as a solo artist and contributing to other projects. His latest venture is the Rock Emporium which sees him collaborate with a team of well respected musicians. Together, they have recorded an album called “Society of Friends” which was released through Escape Records on 18th March. I played “Stone Cold Fever”, the first track on the album, on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 25th March.

Parry has previously fronted bands such as Elegy and Vengeance and released 5 albums at the head of the Consortium Project – the final album in that series of concept albums was “Species” released in 2011. Other bands that he has worked with include Kamelot, Mob Rules and Royal Hunt. His latest project is Ian Parry’s Rock Emporium which brings together a group of musicians to deliver a classic AOR / melodic hard rock album.

In addition to Parry himself, the Rock Emporium includes Dimitris Goutziamanis (Crystal Tears) and Timo Somers (Delain / Vengeance) on guitars, Imre Daun (Gypsy Rose) on drums, Barend Courbois (Blind Guardian / Vengeance) on bass and Jeroen Van Der Wiel (Thirteen) on keyboards. There are also a number of guest musicians appearing on “Society of Friends”; some of whom also worked with Parry on the Consortium Project albums. The album was produced by Ian Parry and mixed and mastered by Martin Krunland.

In addition to “Stone Cold Fever”, my favourite tracks would include “Shame”, “Ministry of Rock”, “Silhouettes” and “Crazy Fools”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
