Whilst I never really got into Magnum ‘back in the day’, I’ve nothing but high praise when it comes to their recent albums. This is the third album recommendation that I’ve posted for a Magnum release and I think ‘Sacred Blood “Devine” Lies’ which is released through Steamhammer / SPV on 26th February, is the best one to date. The tour to support the album brings Magnum to Northern Ireland for the first time in many years when they play The Limelight in Belfast on 27th May.

The first release from the new album was “Crazy Old Mothers” which I played on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 5th February.

Guitarist Tony Clarkin apparently started writing for this album as soon as the previous one “Escape From The Shadow Garden” was released back in March 2014 - http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/back-stage/music-reviews/1493-ni-rocks-recommends-qescape-from-the-shadow-gardenq-by-magnum.html . He came up with 25 tracks, of which 10 make the album and another 3 get included on a bonus CD / DVD package.

In addition to “Crazy Old Mothers”, my favourites would be the title track ‘Sacred Blood “Divine” Lies’ as well as “Gypsy Queen”, “Princess In Rags (The Cult)”, “Your Dreams Won’t Die” and “A Forgotten Conversation”.

Magnum are Tony Clarkin on guitar, Bob Catley on vocals, Mark Stanway on keyboards, Al Barrow on bass and Harry James on drums.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
