I’ve been a fan of Voodoo Vegas since I first saw them supporting a tribute band in The Empire in Belfast back in January 2010 and bought their live CD. In 2013 they released their first full studio album called “The Rise of Jimmy Silver” and I posted an interview with the band in June of that year ahead of a headlining appearance in The Pavilion in Belfast. I’ve been looking forward to hearing some new material from the band and was pleased when Stampede Press sent through the latest release from Voodoo Vegas a few weeks ago. The new EP entitled “Hypnotise” is released on 12th October and it certainly doesn’t disappoint!

There are four tracks on the EP – I played “Hypnotise” on the Friday NI Rocks Show at the end of August following the release of a video for that track. “Tied Up” is included on the Show this week to coincide with a new video and the release of the EP. The other tracks are “Round & Round” and “Killing Joke”. Hopefully we’ll get a full length album sometime soon.

There have been a couple of line-up changes since 2013 and Voodoo Vegas are now Lawrence Case on vocals, Meryl Hamilton and Jon Dawson on guitars, Ash Moulton on bass and on Jonno Smyth drums.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
