“Drive” is the first album from multi-national band Mother Road. It is released on 26th May through the band’s own Road Songs label, with distribution being handled by AOR Heaven. Mother Road was founded in 2011 following a meeting between guitarist Chris Lyne (formerly of Soul Doctor) and American vocalist Keith Slack (Steelhouse Lane / Michael Schenker Group / Mudpie). Described in their press release as a Hard Rock Blues band, I have to admit that during my first listen to the album I did draw comparison to early Whitesnake on a number of occasions.
Lyne has named Gary Moore, Jimmy Page, Paul Kossoff and John Sykes amongst his influences, whilst Slack’s list includes Paul Rodgers and Led Zeppelin. That should give you a feel for to expect from “Drive” and with that in mind I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
The Mother Road line-up is completed by Alessandro Del Vecchio on keyboards, Zacky Tsoukas on drums and Frank Binke on bass. You can find out more at www.motherroad-band.com
There are 11 great tracks on the album and it’s hard to pick favourites but at a push I’ll go with “Feather In Your Hat”, “Drive Me Crazy”, “Dangerous Highway”, “Dirty Little Secret” and “Still Rainin’”.
About “NI Rocks Recommends”
I'm not a reviewer and I certainly don’t claim to be a journalist, but I wanted to acknowledge some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI by artists, promoters and labels. That was the simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends”. To be honest I’m not really a big fan of the whole idea of “Reviews” as they just represent one person’s opinion!! So I'm not giving marks or ratings, trying to categorise bands or compare artists. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
