Burning Rain have been around since 1998 but “Epic Obsession” is only the third album by the band that features Doug Aldrich on guitars, Keith St John on vocals, Sean McNabb on bass and Mat Starr on drums. The album is released by Frontiers Records on 17th May 2013. As is to be expected what you get is an album full of great tracks liberally sprinkled with Mr Aldrich’s magic touch on guitar and powerfully delivered by Mr St John. And you certainly don’t get short changed either with 14 tracks lasting almost an hour and a quarter!

The 14 tracks include a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Kasmir” and an acoustic version of one of the tracks “Heaven Gets Me By”. Favourite tracks would include “The Cure”, the electric version of “Heaven Gets Me By”, “Too Hard To Break” “Ride The Monkey” and the first single from the album “My Lust Your Fate”. The album contains a number of slower tunes but they fit very comfortably in with the faster rockier tracks.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

I'm not a reviewer but wanted to acknowledge some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI by artists, promoters and labels both within and outside of N Ireland. That was the idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends”. I'm not giving marks or ratings, trying to categorise bands or compare artists. The albums that I’ll be recommending would be those I’d buy myself, so there’ll be a strong focus on “classic rock” sounds; however you wish to define that! What you won’t get is death metal or similar genres. Each to his own, but that ain’t what I choose to listen to!

To be honest I’m not really a big fan of the whole idea of “Reviews” as they’re simply one person’s opinion!!  “NI Rocks Recommends” is therefore just my personal recommendation. Let's just say that if I've went to the bother of writing this, I think it's worth taking a listen to and you’ll be hearing it played on my shows on Rock Radio NI!!
