I posted an interview with American band Shallow Side in January 2017 just after the release of their third EP. The band has now released their debut album called “Origins”, through Thermal Entertainment on 13th July. The album title is actually very appropriate as the album contains nine tracks that have been released previously, along with two acoustic versions. Shallow Side plan to release a studio album of new material later this year. “Crutch” for which a video was released back in 2011 will be included on the Friday NI Rocks Show this week – 20th July.

Shallow Side formed in Alabama in 2010 and released their debut EP “Home Today” in 2012. That was followed by “Stand Up” in 2014 and “One” in 2017. Along the way they’ve done a lot of touring around the USA. Check out the interview from 2017 to find out more about the band - http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/interviews/2986-ni-rocks-interview-with-heath-from-shallow-side.html

Three of the original founding members remain – singer Eric Boatright, guitarist Seth Trimble and drummer Heath Fields. There were a couple of changes of bass player prior to the arrival of Matt Daniels.

“Origins” features the 2010 recording “Crutch”; two tracks from “Home Today” (“Try To Fight It” and “Home Today”); four tracks from “Stand Up” (“My Addiction”, “Crazy”, “Stand Up” and “We Won’t Die”) and two tracks from “One” (“Rebel” and “Can You Hear Me”). In addition, there are acoustic versions of two tracks from the debut “Home Today” EP – “Try To Fight It” and “Out of Reach”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
