Symphonic metal is one of those genres that can be hit or miss with me. However, when “The Age of Innocence”, the debut album from Angelwings arrived in my inbox it impressed me enough after a quick listen to download it for further investigation. The band are from Gibraltar and the album was released through Pride and Joy Music on 23rd June. I played the track “Wonderland” on the Friday NI Rocks Show uploaded on 21st June.

Angelwings formed in Gibraltar in 2013, initially covering Nightwish tracks before writing their own material in 2014. Their first recordings began to circulate in 2015 and that year they played some local festivals alongside bands such as Saxon and Kings of Leon. They signed with Pride and Joy Music in Germany in 2016 to release their debut album.

The band features Davinia Cano on vocals, Glenn Cano on keyboards, Paul Cano on guitar, Mark Brooks on drums and Darren Fa on bass.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
