I wouldn’t say that I’m really a huge fan of ‘Prog Rock’ as a genre, but then again I’m not really much of a fan of labelling bands either. I just like what I like! And I like “The Passage” which is the eighth studio album from Italian band DGM enough to post this recommendation! The album was released on 26th August by Frontiers Music. The first single from the album was “Animal” which was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 24th June and “Ghost of Insanity” is on the Show on 2nd September.

DGM originally formed in 1994 as an instrumental power metal band with the first initial of the three member’s first names being the source of the band name! They were joined by a vocalist in 1995 and released an EP in 1996, followed by their first album in 1997. None of those original four are still in the band and the longest standing member of DGM now is Fabio Costantino who replaced the original drummer in 1999.

The other members of DGM are Marco Basile on vocals, Simone Mularoni on guitars amd keyboards, Andrea Arcangeli on bass and Emanuele Casali on keyboards. There are guest appearances on the album from Evergrey singer Tom Englund (on the track “Ghost of Insanity”) and Symphony X guitarist Michael Romeo (on the track “Dogma”). DGM have toured with Symphony X in the past and singer Russell Allen had appeared on the previous DGM album.

There are 11 tracks on the new album – my favourites would be “Animal”, “Ghost of Insanity”, “Fallen”, “The Passage” and “Dogma”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
