“Released” is the latest album from French rockers BlackRain and it was sent to us recently by their label UDR Music. It was actually released on 25th March, but I felt it would be an injustice to let it go without posting a recommendation as it really is an album worth checking out. The first single from the album was the track “Back In Town”, which was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 6th May.

BlackRain formed in 2006 and have 4 releases prior to this one – “BlackRain” (2007), “Licence To Thrill” (2008), “Lethal Dose of...” (2011) and “It Begins” (2013). For “It Begins” they brought in American producer Jack Douglas who has worked with the likes of Aerosmith, Cheap Trick and Alice Cooper. That partnership worked well and BlackRain have worked with him again on “Released”.

There are 13 tracks on the album; personal favourites would include “Back In Town”, “Run Tiger Run”, “Eat You Alive”, “For Your Love”, “Fade To Black” and “Rock My Funeral”.

BlackRain are Swan Hellion on vocals and guitar, Axel “Max 2” Charpentier on lead guitar, Matthieu De La Roche on bass and Frank Frusetta on drums.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
