Swedish band MarysCreek have been around for over ten years but only release their second album, entitled “Infinity”, through Escape Music on 22nd January. This follows a debut album (“Some Kind of Hate”) in 2007 and a period of little activity before the release of the EP “Incubic Twin” in 2014. I’d played a couple of tracks from the latter on the NI Rocks Shows on Rock Radio NI. The opening track of the new album, entitled “Hypnotized” featured on the NI Rocks A-Z Show in December whilst “Buried Deep Within” is included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 22nd January.

MaryCreek were formed in 2004 by singer Mats Nilsson and drummer Stefan Halldin. The other members of the band are Jonas Hallberg and Peter Bergkvist on guitars and Roger Blomberg on bass. David Andersson from Swedish melodic death metal band Soilwork plays a guitar solo on the track “Forever Lost”. Vocalist Mats Nilsson wrote all the tracks and also plays keyboards.

The press release refers to the band blending “modern heavy metal with the classic melodies of Scandinavian pop tradition” with the aim getting the best from both and delivering something “fresh and unique”. I’m certainly not a critic and don’t make any claim on being a music expert, but I do like what I hear on “Infinity”; so whatever they’re doing it works for me! In addition to the two tracks that I’ve played on the NI Rocks Shows recently, my favourites would be “Into Infinity”, “On The Other Side” and “Tomorrow”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
