Major Instinct are a Swedish band formed following the demise of the successful M.ILL.ION in 2014. The latter band had been founded by bass player B.J. Laneby in 1989 and released seven successful albums over 25 years. Laneby is now the driving force behind Major Instinct who released their debut album entitled “Roots and Wings” through the AOR Heaven label on 30th November. The album release was preceded by the release of the single “High Five” and a video to accompany it.

Laneby had been hit by a very serious illness whilst on tour in theUK with M.ILL.ION in 2014 and that ultimately led to the decision to move on and start a new project. Johan Hall, the drummer from M.ILL.ION also made the move with him to form Major Instinct. They were joined by Stefano Marchesini on vocals, Magnus Mild on guitar and Gabriel Glamheden on keyboards. Marchesini had previously sang with a band called Human Race and on some songs can sound a bit like David Coverdale. There is a kinda Whitesnake vibe to the Major Instinct sound overall.

There are 12 tracks on the album; all of them written by Laneby and they include a re-recording of the M.ILL.ION track “Follow The Trends”. The track “316” is included on the Friday NI Rocks Show broadcast on 11th December (available for a few weeks via the On Demand Player - http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/on-demand-player.html ). Other favourites include “High Five”, “Here And Now”, “Kicked To The Ground” and “Cold Wind Blows”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
