“Miskatonic Graffiti” is the latest release from Swedish based band Casablanca. It is their third album and was released on 25th September by Despotz Records. I’m generally a little bit dubious of concept albums and specifically those not based on actual events; though I don’t really know why! There is quite a detailed storyline behind the concept at the heart of “Miskatonic Graffiti” – one that is apparently based on Chuthulu mythology – but I’m not going to go into the whole story. My recommendation is based on the quality of the music rather than the concept, and there is a lot to like on “Miskatonic Graffiti”.

My favourite tracks from the 10 on the album would be “Closer”, “This Is Tomorrow”, “RE: Old Money”, “Sister” and “Exit The Mountain”. A video has been released for “Closer” and that track was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show recently.

The Casablanca line-up is Anders Ljung on vocals, Mats Rubarth on bass, Josephine Forsman on drums and Erik Almstrom, Ryan Roxie and Erik Stenemo on guitars.

I’d posted an e-mail interview with American guitarist Ryan Roxie in February 2014 following the release of the previous album “Riding A Black Swan”. Roxie is better known for his on-going involvement with the Alice Cooper Band and Roxie 77 – that interview is currently the most read on the Rock Radio NI website - http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/interviews/1455-ni-rocks-interview-with-ryan-roxie-of-casablancaroxie-77alice-cooper-band.html - (surpassing even the Richie Sambora interview, which is the most listened to!)

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
