“The Elegance Machine” was released through AOR Heaven on 31st August and it is the latest album from British melodic rock band Newman. Singer Steve Newman formed the band back in 1997 and he has been releasing albums at a steady rate ever since. As I’ve said before, the AOR genre is one that can be hit or miss with me, but I’ve been listening to “The Elegance Machine” quite a bit over the past few weeks and it definitely falls into that ‘hit’ category.

Steve Newman not only provides vocals, but plays guitar and keyboards as well as writing all the tracks (co-writing “Halo” with Paul Boyle) and producing the album. The drummer on “The Elegance Machine” and all the recent Newman albums is Rob McEwen. Backing vocals are provided by Geoff Wooton on three tracks and by Mark Thompson-Smith from Praying Mantis on three other tracks.

I’ve played the track “Confess” on the Friday NI Rocks Show already. Other favourites from the 12 on the album would include “The Suit (Skyscraper)”, “Illuminate”, “Halo” and “She Walks in Silence”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
