Listening to albums like “No Rules, No Laws, No Regrets”, which was released by Gasoline Outlaws on 22nd June, reminds me why I first started “NI Rocks” over six years ago. The simple objective being to do something / anything at all to help promote some of the excellent local rock bands that I was watching on a regular basis. At that time I never envisioned hosting radio shows, doing interviews or posting album recommendations, but here we are! My little album recommendations may not carry the same weight or standing as others’ reviews, but there was no way I was letting this release go by without having a chance to tell everyone how good I think it is!

The local “rock scene” may have changed since 2009 – bands, like people come and go – but I still feel we have a wealth of musical talent in our little country. Everyone will have their own musical preferences, but in my own mind album releases this year from The Answer, Trucker Diablo and now Gasoline Outlaws underline what is so good about local rock music. Add to that, the new Sinocence EP, the Midnight Transmission album and other recent releases from bands outside of my own particular musical niche; as well as forthcoming album releases from the Screaming Eagles, Stormzone and whatever Million Dollar Reload transforms into and you’ll get a sense of how much talent we have, no matter how many nay-sayers and critics you might encounter.

The members of Gasoline Outlaws will be well known to anyone who has been attending local gigs in the past number of years. Vocalist Matt Fitzsimons and bass playing brother Chris will be best known as members of Black Freeway, drummer Adam Callaghan is a member of Pay*ola and guitarist Adam Parkin was in a band called Yellow Sam. Matt also fronted Last Known Addiction for a time, but until now his excellent vocals hadn’t been featured on a full length album. For more on the band check out the recent interview with Matt and Chris - http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/interviews/2035-ni-rocks-interview-with-matt-a-chris-from-gasoline-outlaws.html

The band have released a video for the track “Nothing On Me”. I’ve played several tracks on the Friday NI Rocks Shows. Favourites include “The Shrouded Wolves”, “Someday” and “Heart & Soul” but there really are no weak tracks on the album.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from he not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
