I must admit to feeling a bit of an affinity with The Burning Crows; so a recommendation for their new album “Murder at the Gin House” should come as no surprise! They were one of the first bands that I interviewed for Rock Radio NI - back in August 2012, ahead of their gig in Belfast that September. Since around that time, the promo that they recorded for me has opened just about every NI Rocks Show that has been broadcast. And strangely, my very brief recommendation for their debut album “Behind The Veil” in March 2013 is still featured on the “Most Read Articles” section of the Rock Radio NI website (between the interviews with Eric Martin and Richie Sambora). As I had “pledged” on the new album from The Burning Crows, I’ve had “Murder at the Gin House” for a few months and have played several tracks from it on the Shows, but it was only officially released on 3rd August.

The Burning Crows returned to the legendary Rockfield Studios to record their second album following a Pledge Music campaign that reached its target in 12 days and eventually passed 250%. The debut EP “Never Had It So Good” and album “Behind The Veil” were also recorded with Nick Brine at Rockfield Studios. Last year The Burning Crows also released a limited edition live CD through Pledge Music called “Live…From Behind The Veil”. That album can still be downloaded from Amazon.

“Murder at the Gin House” is one of those albums that continues to grow on you every time you listen to it and I keep identifying new “favourite” tracks! So far on the NI Rocks Shows I’ve played “Feels Like Home”, “Alright” and “11.37”. In fact “Alright” is featured again on the Friday NI Rocks for a second time this week. Others that will no doubt be featured at some point are “Hell to Pay”, “Come On”, “Shine” and “Little Bit More”. Although to be honest I wouldn’t have any issues playing any of the 10 tracks on the album on the Shows.  The slower “Goodbye (To The Sunshine)” and “She’s The Summertime” are great ballad-type tunes!

One of my favourite lyrics at the moment has to be “when you’re lying through your teeth, I see the devil in your eyes……and though you’re smiling back at me, I won’t be living in your lies”” from the chorus of “Alright”.

The interview with Whippz and Lance was the fourth I’d posted – having started slowly in 2010 with Clifford Hoad from Kings of the Sun - http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/interviews/1088-ni-rocks-interview-with-the-burning-crows.html

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
