I played a track by local band Twister on the NI Rocks Show on Rock Radio NI recently. That had led me to wondering again what had happened to the band – I’d never actually seen them play live but the tracks that they had sent into the station were great. Well, to quote Mr Benn (for our younger readers – he’s a 70’s TV character – google it!) “as if by magic the shopkeeper appeared” - no not Davy Warren!! Ok, it wasn’t actually a shopkeeper, it was an e-mail from Future PR sharing the new album by Big Guns with the station, but it’s close enough! Anyway, I digress!! Turns out that Big Guns is a band formed from the ashes of Twister and their new album “Down But Not Out” is pretty awesome!

The three Twister tracks that I had are included amongst the eight tunes on the album – “Fall From Grace”, “Song For A Friend” and “Red Eyed and Rollin”. The remaining tracks are all great classic rock ‘n’ roll songs too – including my favourite “The Devil’s Highway”. There’s a good cover of that sing-a-long favourite “Rocking In The Free World” too!

The band consists of Kieran McArdle on guitar and vocals, Tony Drumm on bass, Lisa Howe on drums and Daniel O’Toole on guitar. The album is released on 29th November and can be pre-ordered from the band’s website - http://www.biggunsofficial.com/

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

I'm not a reviewer but wanted to acknowledge some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI by artists, promoters and labels both within and outside of N Ireland. That was the idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends”. I'm not giving marks or ratings, trying to categorise bands or compare artists. The albums that I’ll be recommending would be those I’d buy myself, so there’ll be a strong focus on “classic rock” sounds; however you wish to define that! What you won’t get is death metal or similar genres. Each to his own, but that isn’t what I choose to listen to!

To be honest I’m not really a big fan of the whole idea of “Reviews” as they’re simply one person’s opinion!!  “NI Rocks Recommends” is therefore just my personal recommendation. Let's just say that if I've went to the bother of writing this, I think it's worth taking a listen to and you’ll be hearing it played on my shows on Rock Radio NI!!
