As I’ve probably said before, the melodic / power metal genre can be a bit hit or miss with me. Many melodic (power) metal albums fail to deliver anything exciting, but others are well worth checking out. One of those that falls into the latter category is French band Darktribe’s second album “The Modern Age” which was released through Scarlet Records on 21st July. It might be the powerful vocals or the guitar riffs, or both, but it definitely stands out from some of the other melodic metal albums that I’ve heard.

Darktribe formed in 2009, releasing an EP that year and their first album “Mysticeti Victoria” in 2012. The band signed with Scarlet Records just ahead of the release of “The Modern Age”. The album was mixed and mastered at Hansen Studios in Denmark by Jacob Hansen who has worked with bands such as Epica, Doro and Primal Fear.

Darktribe are Anthony Agnello on vocals, Loic Manuello on guitar, Bruno Caprani on bass and Julien Agnello on drums. The band have toured with Girlschool, Crucified Barbara and others over the past six years.

I played the title track “The Modern Age” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 26th June. Other favourites from the 11 tracks on the album would include “Red House of Sorrow”, “My Last Odyssey”, “A Last Will” and “Wild Call”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
