Like many of my generation I had bought the early House of Lords albums released between 1988 and 1992. In fact I’m fairly sure that “Sahara” was one of the first albums that I bought on CD rather than vinyl.  I’ve remained a big fan of the band ever since and writing a recommendation for “”Precious Metal”, their sixth studio album since reforming in 2000, was pretty much a certainty! The album is released through Frontiers Records on 21st February.

Fronted of course by James Christian the band has had a fairly stable line-up since 2005 when guitarist Jimi Bell, drummer B.J. Zampa, keyboardist Jeff Kent and bassist Chris McCarvill all came on board (McCarvill did leave for a short while in 2008/09 due to commitments with Dokken).

In my very humble opinion, the recent House of Lords albums released through Frontiers have all been excellent  and it came as no big surprise to me that “Precious Metal” continues in that vein. Produced by Christian it delivers that essential House of Lords blend of melodic /classic /heavy rock that should really defy labelling (and let’s face it we’re all fed up with the industry’s endless desire to label everything).

There are a load of great tracks to pick from but personal favourites would include “Battle”, “Live Every Day (Like It’s The Last)”, “Turn Back The Tide” and “You Might Just Save my Life”.

The band plays some dates in England in March supporting Robin Beck on her “Perfect Storm” tour as well as the Hard Rock Hell AOR 2 Festival in Wales.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

I'm not a reviewer and I certainly don’t claim to be a journalist, but I wanted to acknowledge some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI by artists, promoters and labels. That was the simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends”. To be honest I’m not really a big fan of the whole idea of “Reviews” as they just represent one person’s opinion!!  So I'm not giving marks or ratings, trying to categorise bands or compare artists. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
