NI ROCKS Recommends "The Infinite Loop" by SIFTING

Published: Monday, 14 October 2019 00:00 | Written by NI ROCKS | Print | Hits: 4178

“The Infinite Loop” is the third album from the band Sifting and it was released by Eclipse Records on 27th September. The band was formed in Venezuela in 2010 but is now based in California. I can’t say that I’m a particularly huge fan of the progressive metal genre, but there’s a lot of tracks on this album that I liked and it’s certainly worth checking out. The third single from the album, “Enough”, was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 11th October.

NI ROCKS Recommends "Consume The Earth" by FATHOM FAREWELL

Published: Friday, 11 October 2019 00:00 | Written by NI ROCKS | Print | Hits: 4249

Generally I’m not really a fan of screaming vocals, however, in moderation and mixed with ‘clean’ vocals I’m a little more flexible. Fathom Farewell is identified as a ‘melodic metalcore’ band in the e-mail that we received about their new EP “Consume The Earth” (released on 20th September). As always I gave it a listen to see what I thought – and really liked it! There is some screaming vocals, but as the band’s website says ‘the innovative music they create has a piece of appeal for everyone’! The track “Six Feet Beneath” was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 4th October.

NI ROCKS Interview with DAVID ELLEFSON

Published: Thursday, 10 October 2019 00:00 | Written by NI ROCKS | Print | Hits: 6495

Megadeth is of course one of those iconic bands in the metal scene and the name of founding member David Ellefson should be instantly recognisable to any rock or metal fan. There is of course much more to Ellefson than being the bass player for Megadeth. With his business partners he owns a record company, a film company and a coffee company and over the past few years he has been part of the bands Altitudes & Attitude and Metal Allegiance. Earlier this year he published his second book “More Life With Deth” and an accompanying album called “Sleeping Giants”. Ellefson brings his solo tour to Europe in November. The first of those gigs is a special show in Wolverhampton on 3rd November that features KK Downing, Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens and others.

I was thrilled to get the opportunity to chat with David via Skype on 8th October prior to him joining Megadeth of the inaugural ‘Megacruise’ on 13th October. We discussed the upcoming European tour and the show in Wolverhampton, his new book and album, working with Frank Bello in Altitudes & Attitude, the Metal Allegiance albums and of course Megadeth.

The interview was first broadcast on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 11th October alongside an interview with Magnus Karlsson. It was then repeated on 25th October along with some more supporting tracks. The latter Show is now available from our MixCloud page - https://www.mixcloud.com/NIRocks/interview-with-david-ellefson-from-megadeth-on-the-friday-ni-rocks-show-25th-oct-2019/

NI ROCKS Interview with MAGNUS KARLSSON

Published: Thursday, 10 October 2019 00:00 | Written by NI ROCKS | Print | Hits: 7013

Magnus Karlsson is a musician whose name has appeared in many of the album recommendations that I’ve posted on the Rock Radio NI website over the past six years. Often as member of a band such as Primal Fear, Starbreaker or The Ferrymen and quite frequently as a songwriter, guitarist or producer in other projects. This Friday (11th October), “A New Evil”, the second album from The Ferrymen is released by Frontiers Music and again it features Karlsson along with drummer Mike Terrana and outstanding vocalist Ronnie Romero.

I was able to have a chat with Magnus via Skype on 7th October to talk about The Ferrymen and the latest album. We also discussed Primal Fear, Kiske Somerville, Magnus Karlsson’s Free Fall, Starbreaker and his recent involvement on the new Sinner album. That interview was on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 11th October. The interview and three tracks are available from our MixCloud page -
