This week has seen press releases from two of our favourite bands announcing the release of records featuring covers of some Blues classics. The second announcement came from Blackstone Cherry and is featured on a separate article. The first announcement came from the Quireboys; who revealed the release of the 3-track EP “Leaving Trunk” on 1st August, followed by the album “White Trash Blues” on 5th September.

I recently posted an album recommendation for “Horizon”, the debut release from Brazilian band Owl Company. The album was released on 14th July via One RPM. As I didn’t know much about the band I arranged to do an interview by e-mail with lead singer Enrico Minelli. The other members of the band are Felipe Ruiz on guitars, Fabio Yamamoto on bass and Thiago Biasoli on drums.
Janet Gardner will be known to many as the front woman of iconic all female rock band Vixen. In August she releases her first solo album, recorded along with her husband Justin James. The album is released via Pavement Music on 18th August. I had the pleasure of speaking to Janet via Skype on 19th July to chat about the new album and much more. That interview was broadcast on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 21st July along with four tracks from the new album - that Show is now available on our MixCloud page - https://www.mixcloud.com/NIRocks/interview-with-janet-gardner-from-vixen-on-the-friday-ni-rocks-show-21st-july-2017/
“Horizon” is the debut album from Brazilian band Owl Company and it was released via One RPM on 14th July. We picked up on the release through our long-time contributors New Ocean Media. Owl Company tick all the boxes for me when I’m wanting to listen to something at the more metal and gutsier end of my music spectrum rather than the softer melodic side. I played the track “Black n Blue” on the Friday NI Rocks Show uploaded on 21st June and then “Play With Fire” on the Show uploaded on 6th July.
