German melodic metal band Freedom Call release their latest album “Beyond” through the Steamhammer/SPV label on 24th February (4th March in the USA). The band have been around since 1998 releasing 7 studio albums, a best of and 2 live albums prior to the latest offering. Freedom Call are highly popular on the European mainland where the melodic metal genre has its heartland. Personally, I’m a more recent convert - tracks from “Land of the Crimson Dawn” (2012) and the best of album “Ages of Light” (2013) would have featured on my shows.
FM return to Belfast on 1st April as support to Foreigner in The Waterfront Hall. Local support comes from the recently reformed No Hot Ashes. I spoke to FM lead singer Steve Overland on the phone to ask him a few questions about the gig, future plans for FM, the release of his new Overland album “Epic” etc.
The interview will be broadcast on the Friday NI Rocks Show at 9pm UK time on Friday 14th February but is also available from the On Demand Player http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/hosts/ni-rocks-friday-rock-show.html (show uploaded February 11th) for the next 8 weeks.
I’ll also be transcribing the interview and posting it on the Rock Radio NI website later this week.

Steve Overland is of course best known as frontman for British melodic rock icons FM, but over the years he has released a number of albums under other guises. That includes The Ladder, Shadowman and most recently Overland. “Epic” is the third release from Overland following on from “Break Away” in 2008 and “Diamond Dealer” in 2009. The album is released on 21st February through Escape Music.
For “Epic”, Steve Overland has secured the services of Billy Greer (Kansas), Fredrik Bergh and Billy Trudel. The album is produced by Mike Slamer.
