English band Piston self-released their self-titled debut album on 13th September. The album is being distributed by Music Glue and came to our attention thanks to our friends at Noble PR. The band has been around for a few years, getting airplay on Planet Rock Radio and coverage in Classic Rock Magazine amongst others. The track “Rainmaker” was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 9th August and that was followed by the latest single “Blow It Away” on 13th September.

Piston are Rob Angelico on vocals, Jack Edwards and Luke Allatt on guitars, Stuart Egan on bass and Brad Newlands on drums. That line-up of the band has been together since 2014 although the band started playing gigs around 2012. Many of the band members had worked together on other projects prior to the formation of Piston.

The band’s early releases drew them to the attention of Classic Rock Magazine, Planet Rock, Scuzz, Kerrang and others. That in turn led to more opportunities to support or tour with bands such as The Temperance Movement, Sebastian Bach, The Quireboys, Love/Hate etc. The new album was recorded at Silk Mill Studios in Newcastle Under Lyme and produced by Dan Swift.

Piston are currently co-headlining with Collateral on a tour around England and then join Hannah Wicklund & The Steppin Stones and Gorilla Riot on the Planet Rock ‘Roadstars’ tour in England during October. They’ve also just been announced as support for Glenn Hughes on three of his UK shows.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
