Former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley released his latest solo album, entitled “Origins Vol 1” through SPV / Steamhammer on 15th April. Listening to Ace’s solo material has always made me feel like I’m listening to the late 70’s era Kiss whenever Ace occasionally took on the role of lead vocalist, and that can only be a good thing as far as I’m concerned. On “Origins Vol 1” that is particularly the case as we have Ace performing a number of Kiss tracks and even teaming up with Paul Stanley on a cover of Free’s “Fire and Water”.

“Origins Vol 1” features 3 Kiss tracks, 9 cover versions and a number of guest appearances. The Kiss tracks are “Parasite” which features John 5 on guitar, “Gold Gin” featuring Mike McCreedy of Pearl Jam and “Rock n Roll Hell”. John 5 also guests on the cover of Jimi Hendrix track “Spanish Castle Magic”, whilst Slash is featured on the Thin Lizzy classic “Emerald” and Lita Ford performs on a great version of “Wild Thing”.

I played “Parasite” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 1st April and “Wild Thing” opens up the Show on 22nd April.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
