The latest release from German band Mad Max entitled “Thunder, Storm and Passion” is actually a “best of” album, as it contains new recordings of tracks from the three albums that the band released through Roadrunner Records between 1984 -1987. However, if like myself, you don’t have copies of “Rollin Thunder”, “Stormchild” or “Night of Passion”; the release of “Thunder, Storm and Passion” by the band’s current label Steamhammer/ SPV on 28th August will provide you with access to some great 80’s rock music. I’ve already played the opening track “Fly, Fly Away” on the Friday NI Rocks Show and there will definitely be more tracks featured on the shows.

Mad Max released their self-titled debut album in 1982 and went through a number of line-ups before splitting in 1989. There were a couple of come-back albums and EPs between 1999 and 2010 before the band reformed with the original line-up to release “Another Night of Passion” in 2012 and “Interceptor” in 2013 (http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/back-stage/music-reviews/1329-ni-rocks-recommends-qinterceptorq-by-mad-max.html ) . The original bass player Roland Bergman has now left the band and the current line-up is now Michael Voss on lead vocals and lead guitar, Jurgen Breforth on rhythm guitar, Axel Kruse on drums and Thomas “Hutch” Bauer on bass.

There are twelve tracks on the album. My favourite would be “Fly Fly Away”, “Rollin Thunder”, “Never Say Never” and “Burning The Stage”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
