September Cross is the top 80’s metal band in Northern Ireland and in fairness they are possibly one the most talented metal bands in the country. They have their debut EP “Blackened Skies” due for release in the near future and I have had the distinct pleasure of recently getting an advance screening so to speak. Recorded in the legendary Einstein Studios, this EP couldn’t be anything short of magical...especially for a debut EP.

The EP is compiled of 3 songs. “Closer to the Edge”, “Regret” and the title track “Blackened Skies”. All 3 songs have the undertone of the 80’s metal influenced music. Front man, Ricki Hewitt, has vocals reminiscent of the great Iron Maiden front man Bruce Dickinson. The guitar riffs in each tune are progressive and have catchy elements to them. Each song has been crafted perfectly to showcase each individuals skill set, modest breakdowns and technically brilliant guitar solos that would inspire the most indie brain washed child to get up and head bang to this.
September Cross has upcoming gigs on the 16th of April in the Limelight and the 2nd July in the Crown Bar in Bangor. Check them out on their following links and get yourself a copy of their debut ep as it truly is a glorious declaration that REAL metal music is not dead!
