Double-Wide are one of the top bands around and I have never made any attempt to hide my feelings that they are better than some of the pure shite that has seen success from this country. Don’t care if you are an ASIWYFA fan or Two Door Cinema Club fan but

Double-Wide mean business and will blow your fucking mind. From the first song on their debut album “18 Wheels of Misery” to their last, the album will have you rocking out and moshing harder than ever. The album kicks to life with an instrumental track “Solid Ground”. For me this song just teases you for what is about to come and gets you ready to rock.
“Crawler” being the second song on the album doesn’t want to give too much away at the beginning of the album but gives you enough to keep you listening and intrigued by the 3 big guys of Southern Metal. Great catchy riffage and a face melting solo. Great song to keep you hungry for what is on its way.
The following song “Twin Demon” is a dark and twisted song of pain that I just love. Catchy lyric in there “...kill the pain, kill the pain...” I think it is, has me singing constantly even when it isn’t playing. Great breakdown in the middle of the song which only leaves you knowing another great mosh opportunity is about to arise and it doesn’t disappoint then followed by a beautifully constructed piece of guitar work from front man Jon Joe. A really well thought out and beautiful song.
Fourth on this album is “Dead River” which for me is just another great tune to mosh to with a magnificent southern feel to it. Verses are kept light and soft which is good to hear and gives you a quick rest from head banging. Chorus kicks in and the great riffs and dark lyrics is just another thing of great beauty to behold.

Set right in the middle of the album is the title track “18 Wheels of Misery”. The intro to this song gives you a quick taste of what the song is gonna be like but not enough...in other words keep listening. For me this song is definitely worthy of the title track of the album. Great vocals, great lyrics, great riffs and an overall fantastic feel for the album. You can’t help but wanna mosh in your own living room and scream “Fuck it” at the top of your lungs. Awesome song.
“Hell’s Redemption” is the song to follow “18 Wheels of Misery”. I find that with a lot of bands, the song quality after the title track seems to fall but that isn’t the case with this track. It brings the pace of the album down a bit. A great song and very Metalicaish for me. Probably the weakest song on the album in my opinion but to be honest it is still a great song. The lyrics in this song come across very deep and heartfelt.
Lucky number seven on the album is by far my favourite of the album. “Devil’s Ride”. Live this track is unbelievable but on the cd it is totally different and a professional masterpiece. This song has been mastered beautifully and the added banjo in the background is perfect and adds to its southern feel. Powerful lyrics and the riffs for this song are just amazing in every single way. There isn’t much else I can say about this song cause every time I re listen to it to write something constructive I just find myself rocking out in my chair. It is a modern marvel.
The last original track “Save Me” is a great tune for the guys to finish the album off with. Dark vocals again and that pure southern riffage throughout. This song really does bring you back down to earth for the end of the album.
Just when you think it is all over, a glorious Easter egg emerges at the end (well not really an Easter egg as it is named on the back of the cd). Double-Wides cover of “Holy Diver”. This is a great nod to Dio and these guys are fans of Dio so one can only assume this song was close to their hearts. This is a mark of respect to a true legend and they make this song their own and do it justice at the same time...which not many can do.

Double-Wide: 18 Wheels of Misery

Fury’s Verdict: In short, this entire album is structured so well from start to finish and not one song on it is miserable. A pure testosterone fuelled ride from the word go and you have to have a beer at the ready and some aspirin after for the headaches from head banging. Metalheads unite for this glorious declaration of Southern Metal. 5F’s!!!Let’s go for a Devils Ride.
