On what can only be described as a Belfast Heat wave in April SO:NI put on the hottest show in the city in the Empire Music Hall on the 21st April. With so many gigs to choose from in a purely saturated market and too many shite bands out there SO:NI definitely put on a mix of bands that showcased the hottest and some of the best in the country.
“Sweet Addiction” as the gig was sub-titled and aptly so as this line-up and the turnout were sweetly addicted to the bands. Up first was Yellow Car No Return. This was the first time I had seen this band and I hope it isn’t the last time. This band has something totally different to offer everyone. Music is a great mix between electronic funk and good old classic rock. With a scene saturated with Indie bands this band will appeal to even the Indie Scene Kids. This kind of music is perfect for the students and it was a great way to set up the rest of the gig.

Shake at the Empire
A band I have known for some time now were up second and my god do they ever make an impact. Shake are THE top female fronted band in this country. Annika Graham is, in my opinion, the crème de la crème of vocalists. Her range and tone is absolutely tremendous. The pop rock sound of Shake is perfectly crafted with a mix of big chorus’ and catchy riffs that had the entire crowd dancing around. The father & son guitar duo of Norm and Gary is a pleasure to see. There is alot of chemistry on stage with this band and no matter what kind of music you are into you can’t help but smile when listening to this band.
The penultimate band of the night is a band that has seen its fair share of line-up changes and I think this time, it is perfect. Sweet Taste are an unstoppable force of classic rock and blues. These guys are untouchable. I genuinely think these guys could give The Answer a run for their money. The look, the sound and the charisma of this band is just a wonder to behold. They have an ep out at the minute so I suggest you get to a gig and grab your copy.

Last Known Addiction
Headline act of this sensational gig was the beer fuelled southern rock masters Last Known Addiction. This was billed as their Belfast album launch ( I will have my own personal review up of this album sometime during the week). From start to finish this band entertained a full house at the empire. Fans of southern rock/metal will love these guys live. They fired in an Iron Maiden cover and blew the roof of the place with Beer Machine. Absolutely flawless playing from start to finish and great vocals and harmonies throughout. These guys are perfectly named Last Known Addiction because when the smoke clears all that will be left is an addiction to this band.
This gig in general was probably the best turned out gig and best line-up in god knows how long. Get over to facebook and start following all these acts. Links are below.
