Doom metallers Castle released their fifth studio album, “Deal Thy Fate” on 19th October. This is their first release since signing with Ripple Music earlier this year. The San Francisco based band are essentially a two piece, female-fronted outfit that has been touring and releasing albums with a number of different drummers for almost ten years. I included the track “Wait For Dark” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 26th October.

Castle formed in 2009 and released their debut album “In Witch Order” in 2011 on German label Ván Records. Their next three albums, between 2012 and 2016 were also released on the same label.

At the core of the band are vocalist and bassist Liz Blackwell along with guitarist and vocalist Mat Davis. Since 2009, that pair have worked alongside a number of drummers to record the albums and tour, prominent amongst these is Al McCartney. According to the Ripple Music website the drummer on “Deal Thy Fate” is Chase Manhattan, who has previously toured with the band.

Castle are just finishing off a four week European tour, having been frequent visitors to Europe in the past and return to the USA for a two week tour at the end of November.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
