“Rise” is the second album from Two of a Kind, a melodic rock band featuring two female lead vocalists and members of the group Terra Nova. The album was released on 13th July by Frontiers, more than ten years after the release of the band’s self-titled debut. I included the track “Touch The Roof” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 20th July.

 


 

 

 

Two of a Kind was the brainwave of Terra Nova singer and songwriter Fred Hendrix who was looking for a new outlet for his writing and production skills. Through Serafino Perugino at Frontiers, he found Dutch singers Esther Brouns and Anita Craenmehr. In 2007 the band released their debut album which was well received and led to comparisons to Heart and Boston.

 

The full band line-up featured Brouns and Craenmehr on vocals, Fred Hendrix on bass, his Terra Nova band-mates Gesuino Derosas on guitar and Hans in´t Zandt on drums and Fred’s brother Ron Hendrix on keyboards. The same line-up is reunited for the new album.


There was a substantial gap between the debut album and “Rise”, but a quick internet search wasn’t able to identify what the various band members were up to in the interim, other than the release of the Terra Nova album “Come Alive” in 2010. Fred Hendrix also wrote one of the tracks on the Hardline album “Danger Zone” in 2012. Brouns and Craenmehr are great vocalists so I’m sure they’re involved in other projects.
