This is essentially a recommendation for two different albums – one new and one re-release – but it just made sense to incorporate the two into one post. Swedish band Universe released their self-titled debut in 1985 and that is now being re-released to coincide with the band’s reformation as University Infinity and the release of the new album “Rock Is Alive”. Both albums were released on 13th April by Pride & Joy Music. The Universe Infinity track “Rock Is Alive” was included on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 13th April.

The band Universe formed in Sweden in 1982 with the members all having played in other local bands alongside the likes of Joey Tempest and John Norum. The band played extensively on the local scene and released their debut album in 1985. Demos were recorded for a second album with a new singer but these never got released and the band split-up in 1988. Talk of a reunion dates back to 2002, but it has taken some time for all the elements to fall into place. That reunion takes the form of Universe Infinity.

Universe Infinity features original band members Michael Kling on lead guitars, Hasse Hagman on bass, Per Nilsson on guitar, Anders Wetterström on drums and Freddy Kriström on keyboards. The final piece to fall into place for the re-union was a new vocalist and the band found that in the form of Andreas Eklund who had previous fronted House of Shakira.

“Rock Is Alive” was produced by Kling and Nilsson and features 10 tracks that are sure to please any fan of 80’s rock music. The re-released album “Universe” also features 10 tracks and is limited to 1,000 copies on CD. The vocals on that album were provided by Kjell Wallen.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!
