“Murder And The Motive” is the excellent debut album from Welsh band Those Damn Crows. In fact it’s probably one of the best debut albums you’ll hear this year – in my humble opinion anyway! It’s a shame they’re from Wales rather than Northern Ireland (just kidding guys!), but then again the Welsh do have a good track record for rock bands too! The album was released on 26th September – I played the track “Blink Of An Eye” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 23rd September.

Other than the fact that they’re from Wales it’s difficult to find out much about Those Damn Crows without doing a bit of digging. Rather cryptically their Facebook bio simply states “we are a rock n roll band called Those Damn Crows from Bridgend, South Wales”. Even their website doesn’t tell you much more (http://thosedamncrows.com/ ). There are a few interviews appearing online which are worth checking out and hopefully we’ll be recording or posting one in the near future.

Those Damn Crows appeared at Camden Rocks and Hard Rock Hell in 2015 and their debut single “Fear of The Broken” premiered on Kerrang that same year. Their second single “Blink of an Eye” was released in August. The album was self-funded and was recorded at the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales.

The band members had played in other bands (sometimes together) for a few years before coming together as Those Damn Crows. They are Shane Greenhall on vocals, Ian “Shiner” Thomas and David Winchurch on guitars, Ronnie Huxford on drums and Lloyd Wood on bass.

There are 13 tracks on “Murder And The Motive” and it’s difficult to pick out favourites. The opening track “Don’t Give A Damn” should be enough to hook and reel in any rock fan worth their salt!! All of the tracks are fairly infectious, but “Rock n Roll Ain’t Dead” probably merits special mention! Some of my other favourites would be “Someone Someday”, “The Fighter”, “I’ll Be Coming Home” and “Fear of the Broken”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are those that you’ll hear me playing tracks from on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
