“Edge of Tomorrow” is the fourth album from Sunstorm, a band that features the vocals of Joe Lynn Turner (JLT). It was released through Frontiers Music on 13th May. The previous three albums were all also released by Frontiers; in three yearly intervals from 2006 to 2012 following a meeting between JLT and Frontiers President Serafino Perugino. The first single from the new album was the title track “Edge of Tomorrow” which featured on the NI Rocks A-Z Show on 26th April.

Alessandro Del Vecchio is a producer, songwriter and musician who I seem to mention on a fairly regular basis and he is a key player in Sunstorm; performing all three roles. In addition to JLT and Del Vecchio we have Simone Mularoni on guitars, Nik Mazzucconi on bass and Francesco Jovino on drums.

I’ve actually posted two interviews with JLT – one that was recorded via Skype in February 2015 (http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/interviews/1823-ni-rocks-interview-with-joe-lynn-turner-feb-2015.html ) and an earlier one by e-mail in November 2014 (http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/interviews/1725-ni-rocks-interview-with-joe-lynn-turner.html ) following the release of the Rated X album featuring JLT, Carmine Appice, Tony Franklin and Karl Cochran.

In that earlier interview I’d asked about the possibility of a new Sunstorm album. At that time JLT’s response was – “Sunstorm was meant to be a trilogy and we did release 3 CDs. I do not see a 4th Sunstorm album in the near future but I like to keep an open mind to ideas. I hate to rule anything out.” What happened subsequent to that was the result of a desire to bring together the Sunstorm sound and the heavier Rated X sound. The outcome was the fourth Sunstorm album “Edge of Tomorrow”, which is a little harder hitting than the previous three.

There are 11 tracks on the album – my favourites would be “Edge of Tomorrow”, “Heart of the Storm”, “You Hold Me Down” and “Angel Eyes”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
