Six years after the release of their come-back album “Coup de Grace” in 2010, Swedish rockers Treat released the follow up “Ghost of Graceland” through Frontiers Music on 15th April. This is one of those instances when the end product has been worth the wait! Sometimes you just know you’re going to like an album after the briefest skim through the tracks and that is definitely the case with “Ghost of Graceland”. The title track was released as a single and I played this on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 1st April.

The band trace their roots back to 1981, forming officially in 1983 and releasing five studio albums before breaking up in 1993. More than ten years later Treat reformed with four of the members from the 1990 era line-up : Robert Ernlund on lead vocals, Anders Wikström on guitar, Jamie Borger on drums and Patrick Appelgren on keyboards and guitar. There have been a number of changes of bass player since 2006, but Pontus Egberg took over for the latest album.

In the press release the band states that the tracks on “Ghost of Graceland” are influenced by the rock bands of the 70’s such as Kiss, Van Halen, Sweet and Deep Purple; but that the lyrics very much reflect current day realities and subject matter. My favourite tracks would be “Ghost of Graceland”, “I Don’t Miss The Misery”, “Nonstop Madness” and “Too Late to Die Young”.

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
