Nitroville are a London based band who released their second album, entitled “Cheating The Hangman”, through Mighty Music on 25th March. The band was formed in 2010 by Tola Lamont and Scottish-German guitarist Kurt Michael Boeck and their debut album “Can’t Stop What’s Coming” was released in 2011. Unfortunately it must have passed under my radar, but it got great reviews in the USA and Europe and the band toured widely to support the album. Thankfully, I didn’t miss out this time as “Cheating The Hangman” is an excellent rock n roll album and singer Tola Lamont is an awesome talent.

I hadn’t heard of Nitroville prior to being sent the promo link by their label, but it only took a quick listen to decide that it was definitely worth downloading (I’ll not download something unless I’m prepared to play the tracks on my show and usually to also write a recommendation). I played the track “Dead Man’s Hand” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 4th March, but to be honest hadn’t given the album the time it deserves until the past few days as I tend not to write recommendations until an album is about to be released or has just been released. Having listened to it in full quite a few times now, you can definitely expect to hear more from Nitroville on my shows.

“Cheating The Hangman” is one of those albums where all the tracks maintain the same pace and quality and hence trying to pick favourites becomes problematic. If I were to choose three favourite tracks at the moment, I’d have to go with “Louisiana Bone”, “Cheating The Hangman” and “Dead Man’s Hand”.

Nitroville are Lamont on vocals, Boeck on guitar, Steve Parsons on bass and Cyro Zuzi on drums. You can find out more at http://www.nitroville.com/

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

The simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends” is to acknowledge and promote some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI. I'll not be giving marks or ratings or analyzing the tracks in great detail; just telling you something about the artist and the album. It’s a personal recommendation to go check something out, not a traditional “review”!

My musical tastes cover most things rock; from the not too melodic to the not too heavy. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
