Absolva release their second studio album “Anthems to the Dead” on Rocksector Records on 5th May. This follows the release of the live album and DVD “Beyond Live” last year. Their debut album “Flames of Justice” from 2012 has received a fair bit of play on the NI Rocks Shows and we’ve already featured tracks from the new album, so you can expect to hear more on future shows! It’s been said that the second album can be the most difficult for a band, but Absolva have definitely delivered the goods with “Anthems to the Dead”.

Absolva was formed in 2012 by Fury UK members Chris Appleton (lead vocals and guitar) and Martin McNee (drums) following the departure of Luke Appleton to join Iced Earth. They were joined by Dan Bate on bass. Luke returns to play on the track “Never Back Down” along with Doug Scarratt of Saxon. The band have kept themselves very busy over the two years of their existence, performing a considerable number of shows as well as releasing three albums. They have another busy few months of touring already planned following the release of “Anthems to the Dead”.

Favourite tracks from the album include “The Devil’s Mouth”, “Never Back Down”, “Anthems to the Dead”, “Live for the Fight”, “Killing Season” and “Soul Remains”.

We posted an interview with Chris Appleton back in November 2012 just before the band played Belfast. http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/interviews/1125-ni-rocks-interview-with-absolva.html

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

I'm not a reviewer and I certainly don’t claim to be a journalist, but I wanted to acknowledge some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI by artists, promoters and labels. That was the simple idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends”. To be honest I’m not really a big fan of the whole idea of “Reviews” as they just represent one person’s opinion!!  So I'm not giving marks or ratings, trying to categorise bands or compare artists. The albums that I’ll be recommending are merely those that I would buy myself and which you’ll be hearing played on my shows on Rock Radio NI.
