Bands don’t really get much more “international” than King’s Call, with a Greek guitarist, British singer, German bass player and Azerbaijani drummer. Praying Mantis frontman Mike Freeland takes over on vocals on the second full length album by the band – “Lion’s Den” – which is released through Mausoleum Records on 27th September 2013. “Melodic Rock” is a genre that can be hit or miss with me but King’s Call deliver something at the heavier end of that spectrum and “Lion’s Den” is an album that is well worth checking out.

Freeland replaces Rick Chase (Mama’s Boys etc) who had sang on the earlier album “Destiny” released in 2011. The driving force behind the band is its founder, guitarist Alex Garoufalidis, who also wrote all the tracks on the album. That might account for the powerful guitar riffs that are liberally scattered throughout, making the album such worthwhile listening.

There are 10 tracks plus 2 bonus songs (previously released on “Destiny”) on the album which was produced by Chris Tsangarides. Personal favourites would include “Mother Nature”, “Dig It” and “Is This The Life”.

Thanks to the folks at Rock N Growl Promotion for sending the album through to us.

King’s Call are:

Alex Garoufalidis – Guitars

About “NI Rocks Recommends”

I'm not a reviewer but wanted to acknowledge some of the great music being submitted to Rock Radio NI by artists, promoters and labels both within and outside of N Ireland. That was the idea behind “NI Rocks Recommends”. I'm not giving marks or ratings, trying to categorise bands or compare artists. The albums that I’ll be recommending would be those I’d buy myself, so there’ll be a strong focus on “classic rock” sounds; however you wish to define that! What you won’t get is death metal or similar genres. Each to his own, but that ain’t what I choose to listen to!

To be honest I’m not really a big fan of the whole idea of “Reviews” as they’re simply one person’s opinion!!  “NI Rocks Recommends” is therefore just my personal recommendation. Let's just say that if I've went to the bother of writing this, I think it's worth taking a listen to and you’ll be hearing it played on my shows on Rock Radio NI!!
